Summer weddings are a lot of fun, but if your wedding is going to be held in a warmer region, you’ll need to do some weather-proofing. Here are some things to consider when planning a summer wedding.

Tented Wedding

1. CONSIDER THE VENUE
Choose a location that offers an escape from the heat. If ballrooms are not your thing, then consider a venue that has covered areas, a barn, or a tented reception for backyard weddings. Summer heat and rain are inevitable, so always plan for shelter. A plated meal or an inside buffet line will also keep your food fresh and out of the direct heat. Nobody likes sweaty cheese!

2. CONSIDER THE ATTIRE
Having a summer wedding means you’ll need to reconsider formal wear for your wedding party. Tuxedos and suits look nice, but your groomsmen will be sweating through their clothes if they are overdressed for the weather. Think light fabrics, light colors, single layers, short or sleeveless dresses. The same goes for your guests. Make sure the dress code is one that your guests will be comfortable in, as well.

3. KEEP YOUR GUESTS COOL
Offer your guests a refreshing spritzer or infused water as they arrive. They’ll be so thankful for this thoughtful gesture! Consider the layout, too. Shady areas give guests a place to mingle and are nice to have before being seated for the ceremony. Parasols or handheld fans also make nice treats on a hot day. Large fans placed in discreet locations are great for adding some airflow and keeping bugs away, but be mindful of the noise they might create during the ceremony time.

4. CHOOSE YOUR DECOR WISELY
The weather can damage your decor within a few hours. Many flowers don’t do well in direct sunlight, especially hydrangeas. The heat can turn beautiful florals into shriveled, droopy centerpieces not worthy of being photographed. Be sure to plan for heat-resistant flowers and greenery that won’t wilt too quickly. Garden roses, dahlias, orchids and succulents are all better options.

If it is humid outside, signs and paper goods will warp. Plan for acrylic or framed signs and thick cardstock for menus and programs. Keep them indoors until the last possible hour before placing them outside in humid conditions.

5. CHOOSE A GOOD SPOT FOR YOUR CAKE
When planning the style and flavors for your cake, talk to your baker about where your cake will be displayed. Usually the flavors and fillings for your cake can make all the difference on how long your cake will last outdoors. Softer fillings and multiple layers can cause your cake to slide and shift. If you want to display your cake throughout the reception, choose an indoor location if possible. If that’s not an option, choose a shady spot and bring the cake out just before the reception begins and be sure your cake was made with the weather in mind.

Bottom line, keep your guests comfortable, your food safe, and everyone will have a blast at your summer soirée!

"This group knows exactly what they are doing. The planning process was smooth, the meetings leading up to the wedding were productive, and the execution was flawless. The amount of detail put in behind the scenes from Dulce Events was special. They thought of things we didn't, took the reigns on assignments when they knew we needed them to, and most importantly, it felt like they were a part of the family come wedding day. This group did not miss. They listened, they advised, they suggested, they CARED, and they made it happen. We wouldn't change a thing about our Wedding Day/Weekend, not one hiccup, not one complaint.
